Alkylphenols and Alkylphenol Ethoxylates (AP/APEs) are non-ionic surfactants (detergent-like substances) used in industrial processes and consumer products such as laundry detergents, personal hygiene, automotive, latex paints, and lawn care products. Of the Alkylphenols, Nonylphenols or Nonylphenol Ethoxylates (NP/NPEs) are thought to be the most dangerous thanks to their persistence in the aquatic environment, moderate bioaccumulative properties, and extreme toxicity to aquatic organisms.
Nonylphenols are also considered endocrine disruptors, due to their similarities with estrogen. Over time, levels of Nonylphenols can accumulate in organisms and interfere with hormone levels.
AXYS offers 2 methods for the analysis of four biologically important Alkylphenols: 4-nonylphenol (NP), 4-n-octylphenol (OP), 4-nonylphenol monoethoxylate (NP1EO) and 4-nonylphenyl diethoxylate (NP2EO).

Metro Vancouver Multi-Year Project to Study POPS and CECs loading in WWTP and diffusion in the Receiving Environment
AXYS has provided Alkylphenol, Sterols and Hormones, Dioxins, PCB congeners, PAHs, Alkylated PAHs, Pyrethroids, and Organochlorine Pesticides analysis for the characterization of WWTP effluent, storm water/ CSO effluent, and its subsequent diffusion to receiving waters and receiving water sediments. Resident fish are also measured on a scheduled basis.
