Specialty Analysis

AXYS also provides “specialty” analysis of compounds that may be regulated and have reference methods available to meet standard regulatory guidelines. AXYS specialty methods for regulatory compounds generally involve enhancing existing reference methods as follows:

• Use of incremental C₁₃ labeled surrogates prior to extraction and subsequent quantification through relative recovery factors (RRF) to enhance detection limits and accuracy.
• Application of HRMS or LC/MS/MS instrumentation to increase selectivity or detection of target analytes. This results in lower detection limits and reduction of interferences. AXYS methods for pesticides and herbicides are examples of improvements beyond reference method performance.
• Addition of target compounds or groups to provide more information for the end user when compared to reference method target analytes. AXYS methods for PAHs, Alkanes and Hopanes are examples of this type of improvement.

AXYS customers typically use these enhanced methods where challenging data quality objectives are required, such as in litigation or risk assessment activities.

AXYS specializes in measurement of emerging contaminants and specialty analysis to nanogram to picogram concentrations from standard sample sizes. AXYS’s specialized sampling and analytical procedures may allow for much lower detection limits and a reduction of sample size required for human and sediment matrices..
