AXYS Develops EPA 1600 Series Methods for Emerging CompoundsCommencing in 2005, AXYS has been refining existing AXYS methods to produce rhree EPA 1600 series reference methods released by the U.S. EPA office of Water. EPA 1694 measures 74 Pharmaceutical and Personal Care products (PPCPs) by LC/MS/MS, EPA 1698 measures 27 Hormones and Sterols by GC HRMS, and EPA 1699 measures 64 legacy and current use pesticides, including organochlorine, organophosphate, triazine, and pyrethroid pesticides. Detection limits for the three analyses are in the picogram to nanogram range, dependant on the target analyte. The methods, released in December 2007, are applicable to traditional environmental matrices such as water, soil, and sediments, as well as POTW matrices such as effluent, influent, and biosolids. All methods feature an extensive suite of isotopically labeled internal standards, added to each sample before extraction to improve accuracy and avoid “false positives”. Method specific extract cleanup techniques and high specificity instrumental detection techniques are employed. AXYS expects that these methods will be updated and refined in the future as incremental compounds are added to the methods. Contact your AXYS representative to learn more.
